Artist's Description
I used my beloved primary colors with soft overlays and mixed hues. A collector fell in love with the light touch - then only possible with oils. It was sold online several years ago.
About Betty Pieper
Betty Pieper received her first set of oils at the age of ten and has been painting ever since. Her work has been selected by prominent jurors for prestigious regional and national exhibitions and is owned by people throughout the country. Before the age of five, Betty had lived on Dean Street in Brooklyn, on Forsythe Street in Manhattan, on an estate in Westchester county, and with her grandparents in rural New York. She watched her father build their house nearby only to sell it and announce a move to California. In San Bernardino she lived in a trailer park and later in a rural farmhouse without running water, then in an historic mansion with an Indian cellar. How did this itinerant childhood influence her art? "I learned...

Amazing abstract artwork. Love the interpretation and the color rendering is phenomenal. L/F
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you so much. I think I not only used oil exclusively in the days I did this but also with a lighter hand. Sometimes I wish I could recapture that because I also loved this work which sold quickly.

Magnificent abstract painting Betty! L
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you....About a year ago I started using oils again...partly because I loved the feel of these early works and I like the 'fragrance' in the studio, too!
Betty Pieper
Thank you, Ryan. You have a good eye and I like the specific comments. I've been fortunate to have some of the best artist/reviewers comment here. I wish I could recapture some of the neat things in these early works.

No surprise this one sold as its just splendid, it almost has a dreamlike quality about it. love the colours and shapes. The light use of paint has added to the overall quality, will take this little tip away with me :) Thank you

I like your use of color and wide strokes without being well defined but enough so that the viewer can see the intention. Beautiful work.
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you, Ellen. A lot of my early works are the ones people like most. The oils had a lustre that I can't get with acrylics. I'm using oils again but not in the sparing way I did when I had no money and painted lightly. I loved your site....the graffiti tour as well as your gorgeous floral photos!

Beautiful scene Betty! with wonderful free and expressive shapes! Great work! L

Thanks very much, Nikki.

I love the way subject matter blends with abstractiion in these paintings.
Betty Pieper replied:
Thanks, again. I did a nonrepresentational this AM and by noon it turned into breakfast at a pension in the Black Forest. I guess I like the idea of getting a two for one out of my efforts. (Paint One, Get One Free?!)

I can see why your teacher saw you as the next Georgia O'Keefe as I view this again and again. Definitely Betty go for abstraction. You have that special ingredient. Listen to Len.
Betty Pieper replied:
Everything I do will always be quite 'abstract' since I don't like or aspire to 'realism'...but it seems some subject matter always creeps in and it is very hard for me to keep to completely to nonrepresentation. Maybe that's why I admire those of you would can do that!
Betty Pieper
Chana...Thanks for your insights as always. I am quite sincere in reiterating that I learn a lot from you...the group discussions on abstract expressionism and the comments here. In reading this I remembered how I would always paint with a rag, brush, and palette knife in hand...not at hand...and use them alternately like a juggler!
Studio Tolere
Betty I love this style that is so uniquely yours. Your way with line work, staying on the edge of definition and open shape/space is one of my favorite qualities in abstract work-what attracted me to it in the first place. v f
Betty Pieper
omg, Len. What a remarkable upper. I have been struggling lately with "too much realism" creeping in and this is the push that may get me to go back to where I belong. Your opinion is held in honor. Thanks.

WOW Betty this is the very best abstract painting have ever seen, fantastic work. v/f

So beautiful, love the soft flow and colours!! F/V
Betty Pieper replied:
Thanks a million. It is nice to receive such heady feedback. I'm thinking seriously of going back to oils...for awhile. Or printmaking...You know how that goes, right?
Heather Matthews
This painting has a lovely colourful and summery feel.
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you so much. I see you are from Germany and I have to say that I remember some beautiful lakes and waterways there! I like your photo and the background.
Heather Hotaling
I do like the softness in this one and the colors are terrific!
Betty Pieper replied:
Thanks. There certainly is a softness about oils!

Rockerfeller's Folly...That's what people said when Nelson R. purchased dozens of big name and BIG paintings for the Empire State Plaza back then. I'm glad we have them because where else would ordinary people see such work...for free!

Reminds me of the 70's and viewing the modern art at the Plaza in Albany.
