This is one of my largest paintings...on very nice stretched linen...again on a custom
made frame. When painting I often can't settle on a season...Are the leaves the last of fall cleaving on into winter or the first signs of spring in the mountains? The beauty of contemporary painting is that something is left to the viewer...
Betty Pieper received her first set of oils at the age of ten and has been painting ever since. Her work has been selected by prominent jurors for prestigious regional and national exhibitions and is owned by people throughout the country. Before the age of five, Betty had lived on Dean Street in Brooklyn, on Forsythe Street in Manhattan, on an estate in Westchester county, and with her grandparents in rural New York. She watched her father build their house nearby only to sell it and announce a move to California. In San Bernardino she lived in a trailer park and later in a rural farmhouse without running water, then in an historic mansion with an Indian cellar. How did this itinerant childhood influence her art? "I learned...

Another revisit Betty to this exquisite inspiring piece. A warm hello and blessing. Chana
Betty Pieper replied:
Thanks. It wears well since it is one I've had "up" for years in my house. I don't trade out works very well...tend to like living with my favorites. Peace and joy blessings wished for you as well.

This is an outstanding piece, Betty. So creative and just Beautiful! L/F
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you greatly. The new one I just posted "Summer Coming Down" is done with the paints you once recommended, Jim. I like them. Easier to wallow in which seems to be my penchant.
Betty Pieper
What a great comment, Chana. Thank you. I like it too. I don't trade out my wall galleries much and this one has been in place a long time It wears well.

Thank you, Ryan! I love mountains and trees. Less so the snow nowadays except to look at.
Ryan Jorgensen
Love the strong shapes in this piece Betty, particularly the trees, they almost have a contemporary surrealism quality. I'm not surprised you want to hold onto the original. A true masterpiece.
Betty Pieper
Therese, I am humbled by such a nice compliment. I have this painting on a large wall and while I'd like to sell it, I would also miss it. Do you have some you like to live with like that? By the way the icon, portrait you are using now is stunning in its depiction of you and in the overall design. Cries out to be a painting, no?
Therese AbouNader
It's a Real Master piece, simple but Very Rich and Strong Artwork, and Great, Betty....Bravo....!!!!!!!!!!!!
Studio Tolere
Thanks ditto.

Not only are your insights appreciated, Chana, but you have a gift for language that I enjoy. Thanks.

I truly love this painting. A painting that stands up over time is complete , tells a whole story,in each section. Then when all those complete little pieces hang out together they form a living body that keeps growing, in itself and for the viewer. How lucky we are to have online possibilities to keep seeing painting,as this one, that in the past would have had to be bought, as an original to be able to keep growing into and with.
Betty Pieper
Thanks so much. I love the expansive qualities of a big canvas and of stretched linen with some tooth. Over time I also fall in love with certain sections and now I understand how some past great artists have cut their works. Most particularly I love the right hand trees (facing the canvas) as my ideal of simple and yet complex with some depth/layers. You as a fine artist bring awareness to the layers especially!

Another one of your great classic paintings,It has the feeling, strength and quality of a particular OKeefe early painting done in winter, upstate New York.Your work is such a gift for the viewer Betty, especially a fellow artist.like/fav

Betty..I love this painting. It has a different atmosphere...something between reality and the unreal world...very well done !!
Betty Pieper replied:
Thank you both.I like your specific feedback. How helpful for future works!

I LOVE this one!~It's like all four seasons rolled into one with canopies over the trees. (Know that's not it, but it looks like that and reminds me of my "Alternate Realities" series.) This is a fav, for sure!
