Betty Pieper received her first set of oils at the age of ten and has been painting ever since. Her work has been selected by prominent jurors for prestigious regional and national exhibitions and is owned by people throughout the country. Before the age of five, Betty had lived on Dean Street in Brooklyn, on Forsythe Street in Manhattan, on an estate in Westchester county, and with her grandparents in rural New York. She watched her father build their house nearby only to sell it and announce a move to California. In San Bernardino she lived in a trailer park and later in a rural farmhouse without running water, then in an historic mansion with an Indian cellar. That means a lot to me, Maria. I'm not a watercolorist but I learned to paint from a master in that medium so sometimes it just seems to 'work' and I definitely enjoyed doing this small piece. Nothing more exciting and yet calming as cutting through the waves with only a boat and sails for power.

Thank you. I liked the way the sail came out...I've not had much opportunity to sail but I could become obsessed painting that kind of canvas and sky just from watching the kind of artists who can really sail.
