Congratulations on your sale!

Betty Pieper replied:

Sincere thanks. I find sales few and far between on FAA but also I do no marketing so I am delighted when someone finds my work and enjoys it enough to purchase. Wonderful surprise now and again.

A nice surprise Madalena! This is a favorite of mine partly the structure, colors, etc. but I also love the idea of women collaborating and maintaining relationships. Thank you for the feature on WOMEN PAINTERS!

Thank you, Gloria. I sure love the figurative work...but do more landscapes. Maybe I have to start putting a figure or two in my landscapes to combine the two...Nice to hear from you and hope you are well.

Oh, thanks so much. I love your new image...as I've enjoyed each change. Yes, we have so many 'ghost' relationships as women - not necessarily people who would show up at our memorial services but still and quiet and strong almost backstage supporting us as we move along our paths.

I love this with hair dressers in the family I remember spinning myself silly on those chairs at one grandmothers beauty shop rolling my eyes at the old ladies with blue hair and never really caring how my own hair looked as long as I could spin and spin....ahhhh youth.

Betty Pieper replied:

Yes. Now I'm getting the urge to do a similar one on chirpropractors. Could be related to that youth/age thing, too.

Artist's Description

One of my personal favorites. My original motivation was the relationships...both structural and personal...in salons today. I decided to use the "old" language, that is, "hairdresser" to keep with the spirit of "La Coiffure" used by both Renoir (in 1888) and Morisot (in 1894). Done from imagination, the painting allows each observer to appreciate design just as stylists do in their work each day.

About Betty Pieper

Betty Pieper

Betty Pieper received her first set of oils at the age of ten and has been painting ever since. Her work has been selected by prominent jurors for prestigious regional and national exhibitions and is owned by people throughout the country. Before the age of five, Betty had lived on Dean Street in Brooklyn, on Forsythe Street in Manhattan, on an estate in Westchester county, and with her grandparents in rural New York. She watched her father build their house nearby only to sell it and announce a move to California. In San Bernardino she lived in a trailer park and later in a rural farmhouse without running water, then in an historic mansion with an Indian cellar. How did this itinerant childhood influence her art? "I learned...
