One of my older painting covered with glossy Damar varnish. The colors are still true and rich with dry brush, calligraphic lines against harder edges. Cubism meets sweet - traditional subject. My mother who loved realism asked for this and displayed it for years.
Betty Pieper received her first set of oils at the age of ten and has been painting ever since. Her work has been selected by prominent jurors for prestigious regional and national exhibitions and is owned by people throughout the country. Before the age of five, Betty had lived on Dean Street in Brooklyn, on Forsythe Street in Manhattan, on an estate in Westchester county, and with her grandparents in rural New York. She watched her father build their house nearby only to sell it and announce a move to California. In San Bernardino she lived in a trailer park and later in a rural farmhouse without running water, then in an historic mansion with an Indian cellar. How did this itinerant childhood influence her art? "I learned...

I'd be honored! Tell me which ones and what I need to do. I haven't joined contests since I don't get around the site as much as I should....and I never ask for votes, etc. I was brought up in the days when parents told you it was impolite to vote for yourself EVER. Finally in college it dawned on me "Why would any politician or anyone running for anything think someone else should vote for them if they wouldn't vote for themselves!" Slow learner and still a poor 'marketer'.

Would you consider entering this (and 2 others) in the contest I have created as part of the Contemporary Florals Group called Florals Inspired by Modern Masters ? I want the best of the real deal work in the contest. It is open to all FAA and work like this needs to be seen. It puts one's head back on where it belongs.Still one of my favorite FAA floras. like/fav

Thanks so much, Jim. For some reason the votes/favorites don't register on my page under the image but I so appreciate that honor. I saw your designs on the Abstract Expressionist Group and read Studio Tolere's comment that they would make exquisite fabric! Do you know spoonflower site....maybe you will want to use them for fabric?!

Very nice work, Betty. v/f
Kim Gauge
Wonderful piece Betty!
Betty Pieper replied:
Thanks, Kim. It is just this kind of skim and over/underlay that all the experimental water media artists can now produce with various materials, techniques, etc. I so longed for the old way that I completed two oils in less than 3 hours yesterday. A pleasure to partake of comfort food again.
Bill Cannon
Nice!!

Hi Bill, Thanks for the support!

Thank you, Kandy. The style was shocking in its day and now it is as if something old is new again. With me strong, colorful and design never goes out of style. Thanks for the vote and comment!

Had to comment on your comment- such valued praise coming from you.
Betty Pieper replied:
I rarely comment compared to many FAAers so for what it is worth know it is from the heart. If I ever get out your way, I'll visit your studio; I love the great south west. Best always...

I had to pay a visit one of my favorite paintings again. So nice! v/f
Betty Pieper replied:
What a great compliment! Here's one back... I have admired your use of the purples...lavender, violet, periwinkle and every variation...in your work. And I'd urge anyone to read your philosophy for creating, too.
Betty Pieper
I'm honored! And I like that you vindicated my Mom's choice. It always seemed a bit odd in her traditional digs, but there again I was honored by her choice.

Thanks, Chana. Though our outcomes are quite different in style I think we share a similar process in creating....I always enjoy seeing your art works.
