Betty Pieper's controversial painting "The Innocents" has been accepted into the Providence Art Club's 2016 National themed "Color".
The painting is a large oil that had previously been banned in Schenectady until news coverage influenced a change. It was finally hung
at Schenectady County Community College in 2015. The Juror for The Providence, Rhode Island show is Dominic Molon, Richard Brown Baker Curator of Contemporary Art at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum. The Providence Rhode Island Art Club is one of the oldest in the country and is known throughout the world. It occupies 5 buildings on Thomas Street, College Hill, and has numerous free galleries. The National Exhibit runs through April 22, 2016.

Paintings of the Canajoharie region, including historic West Hill School and Wintergreen Flats, are featured in a display at Canajoharie Library to run through February 1st. All sale proceeds go directly to the library and ARKELL Museum. Ms. Pieper attended Canajoharie schools after WWII and lived first in a farm house without running water in Rural Grove being bused to the village. Later she lived in what is now the Palatine Bridge Town Hall requiring her to walk the bridge when frigid winds traveled down the Mohawk River across the bridge. "I was embarrassed by my baggy snow pants so one morning I took them off on the bridge. My mother unfortunately saw that action from the large windows overlooking the Mohawk River. As a result for a whole week I was not allowed to stop on my way home from school at the Library where I did my homework - and enjoyed world class art courtesy of Mr. Arkell, founder of Beechnut." Artist Betty Pieper of Glenville, NY, will be represented in the 2015 Annual Juried Show at ARKELL Museum with an oil painting, "Geranium in Orange Pot on a Deck". The opening of the yearly exhibit will be with a reception for the public on Dec. 4th from 5 -7 PM at the Museum in Canajoharie. The show runs until January 24th, 2016. The Annual Show features independent jurors and is open nationwide to anyone with a connection to the state of New York This year Jeanne Flanagan a director at the St. Rose College Art Gallery served as juror. The ARKELL is home to famous artists and has priceless collections due to the foresight and generosity of the founder of Beechnut Foods.

Pieper's "Ruins with Blood Moon" has been selected for the Cooperstown Art Association's 80 th Annual National Juried Exhibition. The show routinely receives entries from every part of the United States and is open to artists and sculptors working in any medium. The Association makes every effort to retain professionals from the arts, including critics, curators, art professors and gallery owners, This year John Hampshire, a practicing artist and Associate Professor at SUNY Adirondack, chose just over one hundred works from a field of 456.. A Preview Party will be held July 10th with the Juror's Talk at 4 PM, opening of at least four galleries at 5 PM and awards at 6PM. The Association's grand and historic building is a stone's throw from the Baseball Hall of Fame and sits within the village featuring Victorian homes on the shore of beautiful Otsego Lake.

The Innocents, a large oil painting of two semi clad women, was not permitted to be hung in an exhibit by the Schenectady Art Society at the Schenectady Community College. When word of the refusal reached the ears of Acting Dean Martha Asselin, she called Pieper to apologize and say that a suitable space would be available to hang the work. The official who made the unilateral decision had used an unwritten understanding from a former department head who in turn first secured the public space for the art society when his mother was their president. Thus, the policy of 'no nudes' became entrenched over the years and no one questioned either the roots or fruits of the agreement. The College is now committing to developing a uniform policy and guidance to be used for all art groups using the spaces. The opening for the show will be May 2, 2015. Light...

A large oil on canvas by Betty Pieper will be featured in the Annual Juried Exhibition at ARKELL Museum in Canajoharie, New York.
The painting titled "The Innocents" was begun as studies in a life class in the 1960s and finished in August 2014.
The exhibition is juried each year. This year the juror was Joel Chapin, instructor and curator of Perrella Gallery at Fulton-Mongomery
Community College which sponsors cutting edge contemporary works by well known artists.
ARKELL's Annual is open to artists nationwide who have any connection with New York State. The Museum
was begun by the founder of Beechnut and has a long history of collecting and encouraging art. The world class permanent
exhibit includes works by Winslow Homer, George Inness, Whistler and others and often loans its treasures to prestigious
institutions world wide.

Rachel Seligman, Associate Curator at Tang Museum, Skidmore College, in Saratoga Springs has chosen a painting by
Betty Pieper to be shown as part of the ARKELL Museum Annual Exhibition. Pieper's acrylic is a landscape
titled "Bay and the House on the Point." The Exhibition has become national in scope since it accepts
entries into competition from regional artists and anyone with ties to New York State. Approximately 30
pieces of art will be on display at ARKELL in Canajoharie, New York. An opening gala will be held on
Friday, December 7 from 5 -7 PM and run through January of 2013.

Betty Pieper, artist from Scotia, NY, has sold four orignial small works from her Slide Rock Series featured on Fine Art America.
Although originals are not sold directly through FAA, collectors are given means to contact artists privately which a collector
from southern California did thus resulting in the sale. Ms. Pieper notes that another collector on the seacoast just miles away owns three originals.
She adds, "One year more than half my work went to people in California. They must like my work as much as I love
the beauty and diversity of their state!"

Betty Pieper of Scotia, New York, has had two paintings selected for the Annual Juried Show at the
well known ARKELL Museum and Art Gallery in Canajoharie, NY. "The House that Jack Built in the
Woods by the Creek..." is an acrylic of abstract expressionist genre. "Girl at a Keyboard" is a small
oil painting featuring her granddaughter. The annual exhibit is national in scope and was juried by
Joel Chapan this year. An opening reception will occur from 5-7 PM at the ARKELL on Friday,
December 2nd and the show will run through January of 2012.
